Science Says: Breast Cancer Screening Curbs Death Risk By 40 Percent

For women aged 50-69, mammography screenings reduce their probability of dying from breast cancer by 40 percent than these who aren’t screened, says a survey.

“This important analysis will hopefully reassure women around the world that breast screening with mammography saves lives,” said professor Stephen Duffy of Queen Mary University based in london.

“Evidence proves breast screening is central to the tool in increasing early decides cancer of the breast and thus reducing the amount of deaths,” Duffy said.

Duffy and experts from 16 countries assessed the negative and positive impact of countless cancers of the breast screening methods, with different comprehensive analysis of evidence from 11 randomized controlled trials and 40 high-quality observational studies.

“Despite evidence that mammography screening is most effective, we still need to complete further research on alternative screening methods, like the promising ‘digital breast tomosynthesis’; a newly developed form of 3D imaging which may potentially strengthen the accuracy of mammography in handling more dense breast growth,” Duffy added.

The latest findings that looked at cancers of the breast screening over a global level were coordinated because of the International Agency for Research in Cancer (IARC), the entire world Health Organisation’s specialized cancer agency, and may help with an update of the IARC Handbook on cancers of the breast screening, last published in 2002.
